In an anti-immigration effort, the UK has raised the salary threshold for a visa for foreign workers to £38,700.

The threshold salary for skilled foreign workers was increased from £26,200 to £38,700.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the UK government has announced strict measures to reduce the number of migrants entering the country through legal channels.

Key changes were outlined by Interior Minister James Cleverly. These included tightening rules on family reunification, updating the list of exceptions for job shortages, and increasing the minimum salary threshold for foreign skilled workers from £26,200 to £38,700.

Astutely highlighting the need for a decrease in migration, he said, "Today we are taking more robust action than any other government before. Migration to this country is far too high and needs to come down." The upcoming spring will see the implementation of these measures.

Although these steps are intended to address concerns about high migration rates, they might cause a rift with business owners who are finding it difficult to fill positions due to the tight labor market. Following a record-breaking 745,000 annual net migration last year, the government pledged to reduce the number.

The author deftly projects that these actions, along with a decrease in student dependents, may cause the number of persons entering the UK to drop by about 300,000 over the course of the next several years.
