It's insane to have a selector imprisoned for orchestrating matches. Ramiz Raja criticizes PCB for appointing Salman Butt.

However, the appointment of Butt and Akmal left former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja perplexed, labelling it "insane" as he chastised the board.

Along with Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday appointed former cricket player Salman Butt as a consultant member to the recently appointed chief selector Wahab Riaz. The five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which will start in January the second week following the conclusion of the team's Test tour of Australia, is the trio's first assignment. They will assume the role with immediate effect. However, the appointment of Butt and Akmal left former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja perplexed, labelling it "insane" as he chastised the board.

Ramiz criticized Butt's selection for the position and brought up the match-fixing scandal in an interview with Cricbuzz. Due to his participation in the incident that damaged Pakistan cricket's reputation along with that of Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Asif, the latter was given a ten-year ban by the ICC in 2010. Wahab and Akmal were also questioned about the incident in the meantime. Following the 2010 Test match between India and England in Nottingham, Akmal received a notice from the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit (ACSU) requesting details regarding the T20 World Cup that year in the Caribbean.
