The referee's decision to not give Borussia Dortmund a penalty against Bayer Leverkusen is criticized by Edin Terzic.

Referee Daniel Siebert's decision to not give Borussia Dortmund a penalty when Karim Adeyemi went down inside the box during Sunday's match against Bayer Leverkusen infuriated Edin Terzic.

Despite being outplayed for most of the ninety minutes, Borussia Dortmund held on for a 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. The Black and Yellows made few offensive offensives but played solid defense. However, Edin Terzic believed that his team ought to have been given a penalty when Karim Adeyemi collided with Edmond Tapsoba inside the box during the second half.

The head coach of BVB lamented the unfairness, saying that his team frequently ends up on the short end of these situations. Terzic stated in a DAZN interview:

For me, there are no two viewpoints on the matter. There was evident contact, and the penalty is evident. We were robbed of a fantastic chance to win 2-0. I also informed the referee of this. We were informed in Stuttgart that there had been obvious contact and that a penalty was required. I'm told that not enough contact took place here. Week after week, we discuss VAR. We talk about blatant errors in judgment, handballs, and fouls, yet there's not enough contact right now?"

That truly bothers me because it's unfair. Whether in the Champions League or the Bundesliga, the penalties that are given against us are completely disproportionate to what took place here."

Terzic also bemoaned the fact that Exequiel Palacios did not receive a red card despite committing two infractions that he believed warranted a yellow card.

In a Monday interview with BILD, Daniel Siebert discussed his choice to not give Borussia Dortmund a penalty kick. According to him, there was very little contact, so there was no reason for a foul. The referee continued by saying he couldn't understand anything Terzic had said.

"Adeyemi's right thigh was in such tiny contact that it did not contribute to the fall. I can appreciate his perspective on this singular occurrence. However, you must consider it within the larger framework of the game. Of course, I can't penalize Leverkusen in a similar situation involving Can and Palacios if I don't penalize the opposing team. I cannot understand the coach's statements because of this."

When his team plays VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday, Terzic will be hoping that his team can get back to winning ways.
